The island of Sardinia is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is the second biggest Italian Island after Sicily. Cagliari is the capital and the largest Sardinian city. Sardinia is an island full of beautiful contrasts. Here you will find some wonderful golden beaches and lovely nature. The island also has mountainous regions and plenty of natural environments and deserted areas. There are many marshes and lots of exotic birds, wild horses and deer.

Sardinia has a typical Mediterranean climate. Summers are very hot, with July and August being the hottest months with average temperatures of 25 C. January and February have average temperatures of 6 C, and October is the month with the most rainfall. Spring months are pleasantly warm and nice for taking sightseeing tours.

Resorts in Sardinia

Sardinia has lots of popular resorts and great beaches. Costa Smeralda is the popular vacation region, with Porto Cervo being the top holiday destination. This town offers a great mix of culture, history and vibrant nightlife. Porto Cervo`s old harbor is one of the primary touristic harbors in the middle of Mediterranean Sea. Porto Retodno is another great vacation spot, full of nice beaches, villas and many forms of entertainment. Those that like to explore the mountainous regions should visit Gennargentu. The landscape is very beautiful and the whole region is full of attractive flora and fauna. Here you can see some rare animal species such as golden eagles, Sardinian deer or mouflons. Mount Spada on Gennargentu offers many trekking paths, skiing facilities and nice restaurants. Baia Sardinia, Santa Teresa di Gallura and San Teodoro are a few other attractive places to visit on Sardinia.

Sardinia Attractions

Among many other landmarks, Nuragic complexes are very attractive monuments which you must see. They are unique monuments that date all the way back from the fifteenth century B.C. These complexes are built with large stone blocks circled around a tower that has a cone shape. They are evidence from the ancient times, and the Barumini complex near Cagliari is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Maddalena Archipelago with its National Park is great place to visit for nature lovers and for scuba divers. Caprera has beautiful pinewoods and is the place where the famous Garibaldi once lived. Stintino is a nice small town with beautiful white houses and crystal-clear sea waters. Stintino is great for boat excursions, golfing, horseback riding or cycling. If you visit La Pelosa Beach you will see a beautiful Tower dating from the sixteenth century. Oristano is popular for the landmark Tharros, which is an ancient archeological site that offers great sea views. In Cagliari you will find many different flamingo colonies near the lagoon, and Cagliari is also the place with lot of festivals and celebrations going on throughout the year. Festival of Sant'Efisio is the most popular event in Cagliari when you can attend interesting folklore and musical performances. Before leaving Sardinia do not forget to taste the traditional Sardinian dish called ‘porceddu’, which is grilled suckling pork meat covered with myrtle branches and served on a cork tray.
