Jamaica Resorts

Lucea is located in the northwestern part of Jamaica, between the popular tourist places of Negril and Montego Bay. It is a destination that is still developing as a tourist hotspot, and it is very nicely situated around one quiet horseshoe bay. Thanks to its nice location and the fact that is still in the shadow of more popular resorts, Lucea attracts numerous local celebrities, sports athletes and music stars. It is also blessed with nice weather all year long, with average summer temperatures in the 30s C. Winter months are slightly cooler, but much warmer than in Europe with average winter temperatures in the mid-20s C.

Town of Lucea has three very nice beaches. The main beach is a long stretch of soft powdery sand. Waters are warm and shallow, so it is ideal beach for children. The main beach is nicely protected by a tiny jetty, so it is a very safe beach for spending family vacations. Next to this beach is the Sunset Cove which is a bit livelier beach where you can try numerous water sports like banana boat riding, pedalos, sailing, kayaking or windsurfing. This beach is faced towards west, so the sunsets here are magnificent. This beach is also ideal for going on romantic sunset walks. The third public beach in Lucea is smaller and frequented by locals. There you can mix with Jamaicans and relax in some of the nice beach bars nearby.

Lucea`s main draw are the beaches, but the town also offers other things worth seeing. You will definitely enjoy a visit to the Fort Charlotte, which is a castle built in the 18th century with a purpose to defend Lucea`s coast from pirates. This castle is very well preserved and it offers some great views on the sea and the coast. Another interesting place worth seeing is the Old Lucea Courthouse. There is an interesting story behind this clock tower that is one of the main landmarks of Lucea. Initially it was meant to stand in St. Lucia, but it was mistakenly delivered to Lucea and stayed there.

On the weekends you can visit the lively open market which is located near the Lucea bay. There the locals are selling their locally produced food, clothing, fabrics, artworks, handicrafts and many other interesting things. If you want to enjoy a nice meal in a restaurant or go for more quality shopping then you should visit the Midway Mall where you will find some nice shops, vibrant bars and quality restaurants.

Lucea can serve as a good base for exploring the nearby area. You can go on many excursions and boating trips to other resorts in the region or you can go walking and explore the nature near Lucea. Just outside the town of Lucea, in the middle of the parish of Hanover and within a nice green forest you will find four amazing waterfalls - Dry Hill Falls, Kemshot Falls, Mayfield Falls and Paradise Falls. The trip to the waterfalls is well worth it if you want to relax and take a break from the beaches, and they are less than twenty minutes drive away from Lucea.
