Puerto Morelos is a quiet holiday town on the Yucatan Peninsula, located around twenty kilometers away from Cancun. It used to be a tiny fishing village, but it has developed into a popular resort and attractive diving destination. That reef belongs to the Great Mesoamerican Reef and is protected as a national treasure. It has a very rich biodiversity and it is stunningly beautiful reef to explore. It is located about five hundred meters from Puerto Morelos and it attracts scuba divers from all over the world. There are a few diving shops that offer guided diving tours to this reef. A thing to have in mind is that it is forbidden for snorkelers to go to the reef by swimming alone so guided tours are a must. That is done so the reef would be protected from damaging.

Besides being known as a major diving destination, there are plenty of other things which you can do in Puerto Morelos. There are mangroves nearby where you can go bird-watching and admire the nature. Nature lovers would also love the botanical garden - Jardin Botanico located very close to Puerto Morelos. This botanical garden is a living space for the attractive spider monkeys. Another interesting place to visit for the whole family is the Croco Cun Zoo. It is a very attractive zoo where you can go on guided tours and walk among alligators and crocodiles. There are also many bird species, snakes, wild animals other interesting things for the visitors.
