With three distinctive beaches located around the Point, you should not have a lot of trouble finding the perfect spot to spread out a beach blanket, plant a beach umbrella and spend some time soaking in the sun, and getting some much needed rest and relaxation. Wedged right in the middle of these two picturesque beaches is Needham's Point, itself. This beach is often thought of as being the best of the three beaches, and the most lovely one the area has to offer. These beach areas are also equipped with small little recreational parks that just add to the family-friendly atmosphere of Needham's Point. Of course, there are also plenty of little food, beverage and shopping kiosks and restaurants in the immediately surrounding areas which makes it very easy to plan your perfect beach day - after all, you cannot survive on sun and surf alone, you are going to need to indulge in some food and drink, such as the famous fish sandwiches available at a few shops in the area.
Needham's Point may be perfect for spending time on the beach, shopping or going on a culinary adventure at one of the many restaurants in the area, however, the Point is also a place of cultural, and historic significance, too.
With such a long military history, Needham's Point has a lot to offer those tourists who are looking to leave their vacation with not only a tan, but a little enlightenment about the area they have just spent their time.
The Naval Dockyard called Needham's Point home during the 19th century, and was built in 1805. Because of this, there are buildings in the area that were used by the military as far back as 1831.
Because of this history there are Forts that can be toured, as well as a military cemetery (which was first used in 1780.) Admission to these sites is free, however donations are welcomed and go towards helping maintain the cemetary, as well as some of the other old military buildings.
