Barbados Resorts

Saint James is a parish located on the western coast of Barbados. It is a well known place for attracting famous and rich, mainly because of its fantastic beaches and amazing scenery. Holetown is the biggest town in this parish, and that is the place where the first British settlers came on Barbados in the 17th century. There is one very attractive Holetown Festival that lasts for two weeks each February, celebrating the arrival of the British with lots of dances, street fairs and parades. Every parish on Barbados has an own church, and the St James Parish Church is the oldest on the entire island. It dates back from the early 17th century, but it has been reconstructed many times because of hurricanes damaging it in the past. Saint James is also ideal for taking long walks on its scenic west coast boardwalk, and a couple of other notable attractions in this parish include the Chattel Village and the Folkestone Marine Park.

The main season for visiting St James is between January and May. This is the busiest period with tourists visiting Barbados. Average temperatures are around 30 C with almost no rainfall, so the weather is always pleasant and warm. The hurricane season lasts between June and November, but a hurricane rarely hits Barbados and is not something for a big concern.

St James is commonly known as the Platinum Coast, due to its many golden beaches, large seaside mansions and luxury hotels. St James is also known as main destination for shopping and dining in quality restaurants, as well as for many attractive tourist facilities. In St James you will find a top class Apes Hill Golf Course which was opened a few years ago. It is well architected, with several nice lakes and wooded areas. If you are looking for a quality shopping experience then you should visit the Chattel Village. There are many shops and interesting places to explore there. Besides souvenir shops, there are some art galleries and nice boutiques as well. There are also gourmet shops where you can buy special types of tea or coffee and other items, as well as shops selling bath and body products. There is something interesting for any taste. Another attractive place to visit in Saint James is the Portvale Sugar Factory. It is one of the last few sugar factories that still operate on the island of Barbados. It is a very modern factory where the sugar cane juice gets transformed into sugar for local use and international export. The factory fully operates during the crop season which lasts between January and June. During this period you can go visit the factory and see the process of manufacturing sugar cane.

These are just a few of the many interesting things to see and visit in St James parish on Barbados. No matter whether you main interest are pristine beaches, relaxing by the seaside, or seeing cultural places – St James offers plenty of nice things for everyone.
