Cancun is one of the most popular Mexican coastal cities, located on the Yucatan Peninsula in the northeastern part of the country. Cancun`s long sandy beaches and warm waters make it an ideal destination for those seeking relaxing beach holidays. Tropical climate means that Cancun has a warm and humid weather all year long, with months between December and April considered the high season. Besides great beaches, Cancun is home of many archaeological sites and beautiful nature spots. The hotel zone in Cancun is packed with lots of quality all-inclusive resorts, while in the downtown Cancun you will also find plenty of hotels, motels and attractive residential buildings. There are also many nice restaurants for any taste and lots of shopping centers and shopping malls.

Those tourists that are interested in water sports, great scuba diving spots, and less crowded beaches can take a short trip along the coast where you will find many attractive places worth seeing. Cancun and the surrounding region offer plenty of options for exploring and for spending more adventurous holidays. There are many beautiful old caves, green jungles, nice rivers, botanical gardens and amazing parks very close to Cancun.

When in Cancun do not forget to visit the popular Interactive Aquarium located in the center of the tourist hotel zone. There you will find a large pool where you can swim with dolphins or you can see and touch some amazing exotic sea species. Nature lovers would enjoy the Parque de las Palapas, which is the main square in Cancun. Palm trees and other tropical vegetation surround the square and this is the main place for rest and relaxation in the center of the city. Near the main square there is an open food market where you can taste some local foods, and there are also many people selling local art crafts and other interesting things.

Those interested in history should check out the popular Museo Maya de Cancun, which is a very large museum full of many interesting things. The historic Chichen Itza is another spot that should not be missed. This famous ancient city was built by the old Mayan civilization and its ruins and the ancient pyramid are considered one of the Seven New World Wonders. Those interested in exploring more should take a short trip to Isla Contoy. It is a very attractive place, home of almost two hundred different bird species that use this place as their nesting place in the Mexican Caribbean.
