As one of the most popular beach resorts on Ibiza Island, Es Canar is often flocked to by families, couples and even solo travellers looking to slice off a little bit of Spanish beach fun for themselves.
Located in the beautiful north eastern seaboard of the island of Ibiza, the village and resort can attribute a lot of its popularity to the stunning, postcard style sunrises tourists are treated to every morning.
The resort is at its peak during the summer months as many tourist, mostly by families, flock to the Es Canar and populate the resort that mostly consists of a few four to five storey hotels, as well as many restaurants serving delicious cuisine - both local and worldly - as well as many bars for the adults to enjoy a beverage (or two) and a night out.
Es Canar also has a few white sandy beaches perfect for relaxing in the sun with a nice cold drink from one of the many bars surrounding the edge of the beaches, or for more wild fun taking full advantage of the beautiful, clear water with activities such as water skiing, para-sailing or even windsurfing. If you are slightly more adventurous, the unspoiled water offers an astonishing underwater world to be discovered through diving, and there are diving schools with well-trained diving instructors ready to make sure you can make the most of the experience and go home with a heck of a story to tell all of your friends and co-workers. Every July Saint Christopher is celebrated in Spain, and Es Canar is no different. The resort celebrates with a carnival (usually in the first week of July). The procession passes right through the resort on its way to Santa Eularia, where the event finishes with an incredible display of fireworks and patriotism. It is truly a sight to behold.
One element of Es Canar that is absolutely not to be missed is the world famous Hippy Market. Every Wednesday the market opens at Punta Arabi, just south of the main drag of the resorts. The market has its roots firmly planted in the hippie movement of the 1960s. During this "Hippie Era," a lot of hippies settled on the island of Ibiza and began making a living for themselves by creating and selling trinkets and gifts our of wood, various metals and anything else they could get their hands on. This is where the market was born, and to this day it still goes on, making it the perfect place to be a part of the areas history and bring home a souvenir or two.
As with many Mediterranian areas, Es Canar is going to be a lot warmer than anything tourists from the U.K. are used to pretty much any time of the year. However, if you want to really reap the benefits of the hot Spanish sun, you r best bet is to book a trip beginning in May, when the heat really starts to turn up, and no later than October.
