Playa Esmeralda Holidays

Playa Esmeralda is one of the nicest beaches located in the province of Holguin, and this beach is about five kilometers away from Guardalavaca. Playa Esmeralda is surrounded by a few lagoons, lush vegetation, cliffs and close to the beach is the Bahia Naranjo Nature Park. Playa Esmeralda got its name thanks to the beautiful green colored sea water that surrounds it. It is a very popular place for snorkelers and scuba divers, thanks to its warm waters and colorful coral reefs.

The landscape near Playa Esmeralda is very picturesque and also ideal for hikers. Thick vegetation in contrast with the beautiful white sands forms a great sight. In the area near Playa Esmeralda is one popular cove called Estero Ciego. It is very rich with wildlife and is also known as the Blind Cove, because of the fact that there is no river that flows into the sea.

The average year-round temperature in Playa Esmeralda is 27 C. It is good to visit at any time of the year, and there are two main seasons here – wet and dry. Wet season is between May and October when humidity is highest, while from December to April is the dry season.

Playa Esmeralda is well protected by cliffs and tropical vegetation. On the beach you will find lots of great tourist facilities, as well as top class hotels and other accommodation. This beach is several kilometers long, so despite being visited with thousands of tourists it never looks too crowded. There are over fifty great diving spots on its shores, and you will find numerous diving schools on the beach. Waters are shallow and the sand is soft like powder, so the beach is ideal for families with children. Kids will especially love the beautiful colored fish that swim in the waters by the beach.

Activities which you can try at Playa Esmeralda include swimming and diving, surfing, sailing and horseback riding. From Playa Esmeralda you can also go on numerous boat trips along the coast or take an excursion leading inlands. Near the beach there are mini-golf courts, tennis courts and cycling tracks. If you want to see something else besides beaches, you can visit some of the nearby farmer`s houses and see their way of life. Along the coast of Playa Esmeralda there are many beach bars and discotheques, so those seeking a good nightlife would also enjoy here.

If you visit the city of Holguin, located about sixty kilometers away of Playa Esmeralda, you will see many attractive colonial buildings dating back as far as the 15th century. There are also many beautiful parks there where you can relax in the nature. Those interested in history can visit the Museum of Natural Sciences and Museum of History, while other major attractions you can visit there are the San Jose Church dating from the 19th century, the San Isidoro Cathedral from the 18th century, the Marqueta Square Cultural Center and the Cruz Hill which offers great views on the surrounding area.
