Santa Lucia Holidays

Santa Lucia is located in the province of Camaguey, in central part of Cuba. It is one of the nicest and longest beaches in Cuba, while nearby town of Camaguey is one of the oldest towns in Cuba. This beach is over twenty kilometers long and is located near the point where there is very large number of coral reefs. The waters in Santa Lucia are perfect for snorkeling, diving, fishing, sailing and enjoying water sports.

Near Santa Lucia you will find Cayo Sabinal, which is another great place worth exploring. It used to serve as a hiding spot for the pirates in the past due to its many secluded beaches surrounded by beautiful vegetation. Some local attractions worth checking out are the remains of the ancient San Hilario Fort and the beautiful Colon Lighthouse, which is one of the Cuban`s oldest lighthouses.

Santa Lucia is blessed with nice weather all year long, with temperatures often rising in the mid-30s C during months of June, July and August. Winter months of December, January and February are also good for swimming and sunbathing, with average temperatures around 27 C.

Around Santa Lucia there are lots of hotels, restaurants, bars and facilities for tourist entertainment. There are many things you can do here. Sailing and boating around the coastline of Santa Lucia is one of the most popular activities. You can learn a lot about the marine ecosystem of Santa Lucia if you go on a guided coral tour. Catamaran tours are also great experiences, and this type of trip includes a couple of stops at popular snorkeling places, a nice seafood lunch on one of the many pristine beaches, as well as drinks and music on the boat. There are also numerous fishing trips and scuba diving excursions on which you can go on too.

Besides being known as divers` paradise, Santa Lucia has lots to offer inlands as well. The entire area close to Santa Lucia has plenty of beautiful natural sights and attractions. You can go explore the isles and many caverns around Sierra de Cubitas or go watching flamingos along the protected shores of Santa Lucia. From Santa Lucia you can go on many attractive tours leading to crocodile breeding farms, go on sightseeing jeep safari tours, or visit a local ranch and try horseback riding. All bus tours depart from the hotel resorts in Santa Lucia. Besides these tours, visiting the old city of Camaguey is a must. You can go see the beautiful Revolution Square there, the very nice Puerto Principe Rum Factory and the amazing Catholic Church of La Merced. Besides these attractions there are numerous other colonial buildings and museums worth seeing, some of them dating as early as 17th century.

When it comes to events there is one very popular Festival of Cultural Celebrations which lasts for one week in February. The town of Camaguey becomes a very lively place then, with lots of musical and dance performances going on.
