Cairo – the capital city of Egypt and the largest city in the Middle East is an amazing city that has plenty to offer. Conveniently situated on the banks of River Nile, Cairo is the center of all activities in the region. Due to its warm climate, rich history and plenty of cultural things to see, Cairo is among the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Like most of the places in the African and Middle East region, Cairo has a hot, dry climate. Months between May and October are the hottest with average temperatures in the mid 30s C. Occasionally in the summer there can be strong winds blowing from the desert, bringing dust storms that cover the city. These dust storms are also sort of an attraction for the tourists, but usually do not last very long.

Cairo Sightseeing

Because of the fact that Cairo is the major administrative, commercial and tourist center of the region, here you will find lots of historic monuments, historic sites and buildings, museums, universities, hotels, parks and charming spots. There is constantly something going on, and there are plenty of places to explore and things to see.

Tahrir Square

The main place for all major tourist activities is the Tahrir Square, located in the downtown of Cairo. This large and open space has lots of attractions. Here you can go visit the famous Egyptian Museum, or the attractive Umar Makram Mosque. In the Cairo`s center you fill find a charming river island called Jezerah, or also known as Zamalek. It is the home of the Cairo Tower which is almost two hundred meters high, and the Cairo Opera House, two places well worth visiting. If you go a little bit away from the central area towards the east bank, there you will find the charming Islamic part of Cairo. The narrow streets filled with street bazaars are always attractive for the tourists, and here you can see mosques dating back several centuries ago. Near the Islamic part of Cairo is the Old Cairo, where you can admire some of the oldest monuments in the world. Old Cairo is a home of the beautiful Coptic Museum. This huge museum is located in the fortress of Babylon, and here you can also take a walk and relax in the beautiful green gardens. If you want to enjoy nature even more, then visit the Al-Ahzar Park in the old part of Cairo. It is a very big park located in the middle of the city, dating eight centuries ago. It is a perfect spot for having a picnic or taking some beautiful photographs.

Pyramids of Giza

The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx are close west of Cairo, and are always a top destination for tourists. The Citadel is another area with dozens of palaces, mosques and sacred objects from where you can enjoy stunning views on the city.
