However, the locals have done a brilliant job not letting the increase in travel and tourism take away from the natural beauty that has made Skiathos so popular in the first place.

There is nearly an unlimited amount of water sports available to those vacationers who are looking to add a little bit of adventure to their time off. with everything from knee-boarding to snorkelling, and scuba diving to above water activities such as jet skiing and other boat excursions, there is a little bit of something for everyone looking to partake in a little bit of fast-paced fun. However, with the other 60 beaches, there is also a lot of space for those looking to just kick back, and relax to do so. Plenty of the beaches are loaded with sun loungers, and umbrellas, while there are also a lot of beaches that have natural shade thanks to the vast amount of pine forests that tend to grow along the beachlines.

The most famous of all of the beaches on Skiathos Island is Koukounaries, which has been voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in all of the Mediterranean numerous times over the past decade. This beach is also close to a lot of night life hot spots, which makes it one of the premiere destinations on the island for groups of young travellers.

While it may be loaded with them, Skiathos Island is a lot more than just lush greenery, and wonderful beaches. Visitors to the island can also take in plenty of wonderful history and culture. For those staying in one of Skiathos' largest resorts, Skiathos Town, it is only a matter of a few min. walk, but there is so much history, and architectural beauty to be seen. The colourful gardens, white-washed homes with red roofs, and the Skiathos harbour are just a few of the iconic locations around the resort.

Of course, there is also the former home of Greek writer Alecandros Papadiamantis, which has been transformed into a wonderful, and informative museum that is also a must see for those looking to soak in some of the culture of the island.

While there is a lot to see and do on the island, the main bonus of the place is that you can visit it at any time of the year and still be able to bask in the warm, natural beauty of the area.
