Vasilias is a beautiful, and postcard-like seaside village that is known, not only for its fantastic beaches, but for the pine-clad, rolling hills that tumble around the horizon line of the town located on the southern most coast of Skiathos Island.

While the pine forests loom in the background, the landscape in Vasilias is dotted with white-washed houses with terracotta roofs that really help paint the picture of a small, quaint and peaceful spot tucked away on Skiathos. However, there is also a beautiful, and even breathtaking beach located in the town, as well. This beach stretches out, running nearly the entire length of the town, and has soft, golden sand that gently slopes down to warm, crisp, and crystal-clear blue water.

While Vasilias is the ideal location for those looking to have a peaceful beach vacation getaway with friends, their family or with a significant other, that does not mean that there is not a lively and exciting side to the Skiathos town, either. By taking a short jaunt just down the road (literally) tourists will find themselves in the island's capital, Skiathos Town, which is a little more cosmopolitan and is more prone to the hustle and bustle that breeds exciting night life and restaurants and bars with frills and flare.

Skiathos Town is also a great place to visit if you are looking to take in a little bit of the areas popular history. One of the most visited sights here is the House of Papadiamantis, which is the former home of 19th-century Greek writer Alexandros Papadiamantis which has been turned into a museum full of artifacts and exhibits about author's life and books, as well as general life on Skiathos Island.

Vassilias Beach

Focusing on the beauty and wonder that is Vasilias Beach, you will be in a beach-bum heaven with the sandy beach and the natural shade provided by pine trees that grow right down by the beach. However, if you cannot scoop one of the spots under the shade of the trees, there is no worry, as the beach if filled with various sun loungers, and beach umbrellas making it the perfect location to kick back, and enjoy an afternoon of soaking in the hot, hot sun (while periodically cooling off in crisp, clear and refreshing water.) The water here is on the shallow side, which makes it the perfect location for a family-friendly vacation with smaller children. It also means that there is plenty of opportunities for fantastic snorkelling adventures, as well as knee-boarding and even scuba diving - perfect for those tourists who are looking to add a little more adventure to their peaceful vacation.

If the local beach is too busy of a scene for you, there are a few other blue flag rated and much larger beaches within a close drive or walk of Vasilias, as well. One, only a quick 10-min. walk along the coast line, is the lively Megali Ammos Beach, which is also known for its natural shade providing pine trees and hills right on the beach. A little further away (about 10-15 min. drive) you can find the infamous and extremely popular Koukounaries Beach.
