Bugibba is a small holiday resort, located on the northern coast of Malta island. Together with St.Paul`s Bay and Qawra, Bugibba is one of the most popular places in this part of Malta. All of these three resorts are very close to each other, stretching to a few kilometers, and Bugibba is the largest of all. This region is buzzing with tourists in the summer period, but it is very quiet in the winter months. Weather is pleasant like on most places on Malta, although sometimes nights can be chilly due to the night breeze from the sea. The average annual temperatures are around mid 20s C.
Bugibba was almost uninhabited and empty space until four decades ago, when the first hotels got opened. However, it is constantly developing and expanding and now is one of Malta`s major holiday spots. Bugibba`s seaside promenade was built a couple of decades ago, together with its main square and the pavements. Today it is a modern vacation spot, offering many interesting things for the tourists. Bugibba`s coastline is rocky, but there are a few flat spots good for sunbathing and swimming. You will find some nice coves and romantic spots for relaxation. Wearing water shoes is advisable because you can step on some black sea urchins in the rocky spots inside the water. There are not too many of them, but caution is necessary. There are no sandy beaches in Bugibba, but you can easily access the sandy beaches of Golden Bay and Mellieha Bay by taking a short bus ride.
The main square of Bugibba is located beside the promenade. This is the central place where most of the summer activities happen. Here you will find some nice pubs, karaoke bars, restaurants, as well as nightclubs. Here you will also find a few shops, cinema, casino and even a bingo hall. If you seek a quieter evening, then the seaside promenade is a perfect place for a pleasant nighttime walk. Bugibba does not offer some historic places to see and visit, as it is a resort specifically built for tourists. However, it can serve as a good base for exploring the wider area of Malta. The rest of the places can be easily reached by a public transport, at relatively low cost. From Bugibba you can also take boating trips to the nearby islands and explore the hidden coves and beaches.
Bugibba has several shops where you can buy souvenirs and other interesting things, but if you seek more quality shopping then you have to visit the bigger cities of Sliema or Valletta. Regarding the nightlife, Bugibba has some pretty good bars that stay open late. The area around the main square and surrounding streets are the main places for nighttime fun. Most of the hotels in the area also organize party nights and have their own live music bars and clubs. If that is not enough, then you can visit the place called Paceville which is considered as party capital of Malta. There are regular night buses that can take you there during the summer months.
