A wonderful little quiet east coast corner of Lanzarote, Playa de los Pocillos first developed in the early 90s and since been upgraded to include many shopping centers, bars and restaurants, and that is to say nothing of the beautiful sandy beaches. Playa de los Pocillos, with its incredible low-key vibe, connects to the neighbouring resort Puerto Del Carmen, which has a much more upbeat atmosphere, by a wonderful little promenade and about a 15 min. walk.
The Beaches in Playa de los Pocillos are known for their gently sloping sands, and the calm shallow waters that make them perfect to be occupied by children. The sand stretches out over 1 km run, which includes sectioned off portions specifically for sunbeds, sprawling umbrellas, and of course the beach classic of spreading out towels. Surrounding the beach is a promenade that is littered with tiny little shops, cafés and even restaurants saving some of the best culinary dishes in the area. This promenade also happens to wind all the way to Puerto Del Carmen - which, if you are into underwater adventuring, is the home to some of the most beautiful snorkeling spots out new the old harbor.
Adding to the family-friendly atmosphere of Playa de los Pocillos, many of the local restaurants offer children-eat-free menu during the early hours of the evening service. As well, just a 10 min. drive down the road families will find one of the islands top go to attractions: Rancho Texas Park.
Rancho Texas Park is the absolute perfect day trip for families looking to spend a little bit of a vacation off of the beach towel. The park has two sections, its Wild West portion and its animal park. Spread out over 60,000 square metres of desert, the park is dotted with gardens of desert plants, exotic animals, and themed shows that usually revolve around cowboys and Indians adventures. Some of the main attractions in the world of the wild found here are the white tigers and the Texan pumas. But, big cats are not all they have to offer, as you find armadillos tortoises and iguanas as well. There are even pony rides at the petting zoo.
Another beautiful day trip you could take is to 30 min. shot down the road to Yaiza, one of the most beautiful villages on the island, to visit all the art galleries, 17th-century churches, and the many castles turned to museums it has to offer. Yaiza is also a not too shabby place to stop and have dinner, as it is home to some of the best seafood restaurants the entire area has to offer.
When planning a visit to Playa de los Pocillos, remember that it has the typical Spanish Mediterranean climate, which means that you are in for pretty warm weather no matter when you come, but the summer months of July to August (even creeping into the beginning of September) can be very hot with temperatures spiking in the high 30s. However, the winters are very warm with temperatures sitting there in 18 to 20° on average.
