Nesebar is one of the oldest and most attractive towns in Bulgaria. It is located on the southern coast of Bulgaria, over four hundred kilometers away from the capital Sofia and less than forty kilometers from Burgas. Nesebar is one of the most visited towns by the tourists, and the old part of town is protected by UNESCO.
Summers in Nesebar are hot and dry, with average temperatures near 30 C. June and September are also pleasant months for swimming and sunbathing, while spring months are ideal for sightseeing. December is the wettest month, but winter temperatures are not extremely cold.
Nesebar is a good destination for shoppers as there are a couple of popular streets full of stores and different shops. Nesebar beach is one of the best on the Black Sea coast. It stretches for nearly three kilometers and is made of sand and shingle. There is a nice long promenade in the back, and the beach is awarded with Blue Flag for quality. Waters are nice and shallow, and there are plenty of opportunities for water sports. There are many beach bars and snack bars where you can get refreshments on the beach, and it is usually full in the summer months. If you want a bit quieter atmosphere - check out the nice sandy beach located on the northern side of Nesebar. Close to Nesebar you will also find the Aqua Paradise – the biggest water park in the region.
Nesebar is full of landmarks and interesting places to see. The Old Town is definitely the highlight of the town. Most of the buildings and houses are dating from the 14th century. There are many picturesque churches built from bricks, stones, ceramics, and with interesting arches. Not all churches have kept their original look, but most of them are dating from the Byzantine period and middle ages. Some notable churches to visit are St. John the Baptist Church dating from the 10th century, St. John Aliturgetos church, St. Paraskeva church and St. Stefan church. Besides ancient churches, in the Old Town you will see remains of old fort walls, different fortifications, Roman ruins, stone walls and narrow cobbled streets. There are some unique houses dating from several centuries ago. Windmills and Turkish baths are other interesting spots to see. The old part of town also has a few great restaurants with open balconies and terraces that offer fantastic sea views.
