Luperon Holidays

Luperon is a small coastal town located in the northern Dominican province of Puerto Plata. This town is also commonly known as Pueblo Blanco, or White Town, due to the fact that it was used as a place for trading timber. Because of its ideal location and nice shape, Luperon is often used as a shelter for the boats during the hurricane season which typically occurs in September.

Luperon has great beaches and Luperon Bay contains amazingly large mangroves, unique for Dominican Republic. Mangroves are very nice to see as they are a home to many different interesting species. Town of Luperon is also home to very popular softball and basketball tournaments held every summer.

Luperon`s climate is tropical, which means hot temperatures all year long. The average annual temperatures are always between 25 C and 30 C, with months between May and October often having daily temperatures in the mid-30s C.

Many boaters and visitors that come to Luperon often decide to stay in the place for many years. The town is very friendly and has a nice laidback atmosphere. It does not have the allure like the bigger towns such as Puerto Plata, but it is the closest town to the beautiful National Park of La Isabela. Luperon has a couple of large all-inclusive hotel complexes, and there are also a few smaller hotels and other accommodation.

Luperon Bay is surrounded by beautiful green hills that protect the town and the sea from strong winds and hurricanes. Waters are always calm, clear and warm, while the beaches are ideal for sunbathing and relaxing. The town of Luperon is charming, with nice narrow streets, shops and other facilities to meet all your needs. Local people mostly live in colorful, small wooden houses and their main activity is fishing and some farming.

Luperon`s main beach has a white soft sand and is not very crowded like the beaches in nearby places. There are many possibilities for water sports like windsurfing, scuba diving or kayaking. Luperon Bay is also the place where many popular events are being held and there you can often see interesting Merengue musical nights. From the bay you can go on numerous boating excursions and fishing trips. National Park of La Isabela is just fourteen kilometers away from the town, and there you can also see some ancient remains of a church.

A couple of other places which you can visit are the Salto del Rio 27 Charcos and the Ocean World Park. The 27 waterfalls on River Damajagua are very attractive, located about twenty kilometers away from the town of Puerto Plata.

Ocean World Park is just over twenty kilometers away from the town of Luperon. This park is interesting both for adults and children. There you will find one very nice zoo and a great marine park consisting of attractive shark pool, fish aquarium and lagoon for dolphins. You can also watch sea lions or visit the tiger feeding section and see these elegant animals from very close.
