Maimon Holidays

The small seaside town of Maimon is located in the northern province of Puerto Plata, and is around twenty kilometers away from the town of Puerto Plata. Maimon is protected as ‘natural and cultural monument’ of Dominican Republic, as there are many areas around town with unique natural features, many beautiful caves and historical ruins. Maimon is a very attractive Caribbean getaway, a bit secluded from the other places. The luxury hotel complex has a fantastic beach on one side and a beautiful turquoise bay on the other side. The town is surrounded by wonderful rolling hills, which makes this place a very elegant holiday retreat.

The weather in Maimon is almost always nice and sunny. There are over three hundred sunny days in the year and the average annual temperatures range between mid-20s C to low-30s C. The period between June and October is when the humid season is, when there are occasional short heavy showers. The hurricane season is in that same period, but Maimon rarely gets strong storms and the hotels are properly equipped in case if strong storm hits. The period between November and April is the dry season and that is also a very pleasant period for swimming and sunbathing.

The beach in Maimon is made of soft white sand and it stretches to almost one kilometer. It goes gently into the ocean, so it is ideal for children. Coral reefs are very attractive to the snorkelers, and you do not have to swim far to reach the attractive reef as it comes very close to the beach. There are plenty of water sports available on the beach like sailing, windsurfing or kayaking. Near the beach there is one very nice beach bar with chairs located between tropical palms where you can refresh with a cold drink or enjoy a snack.

Although Maimon is a bit secluded holiday resort, there are still lots of activities going on in the place. Walk in the town and you will find many stalls selling all kinds of tourist souvenirs and handicrafts. Maimon also offers good entertainment opportunities as there are frequent cabaret shows, dancing nights, live music performances and open-air disco clubs. There are a few nice restaurants and bars mostly located in the hotel complexes, and Maimon is just ten minutes drive away from the popular Ocean World Park, where you can go see many interesting animals and spend a great family day.

About twenty minutes away from Maimon is the town of Puerto Plata, which is a very modern and energetic city. Its streets are full of shops, bars and restaurants, and you can always hear the magical rhythms of merengue and salsa. There you can also visit the interesting Amber Museum and check out one old fortress dating back from the 16th century. Another attractive highlight there is the statue of Jesus Christ at the top of Mount Isabel de Torres, where you can also walk around and relax in a beautiful botanical garden.
