Arguineguín is a small town located at the end of the motorway on Gran Canaria, and like a lot of towns on the island, it was - until very recently - just a small, local fishing village. However, it has since been developed into something more of a top-notch tourist resort with exceptionally modern hotel accommodations. Though, unlike a lot of the other towns on Gran Canaria that have become popular resort destinations, Arguineguin remains a working port, which helps the town preserve its original heart and soul. The port also allows for a few of the local restaurants to serve some of the best, fresh fish dishes you are likely to ever encounter. It also means there are a few fishermen's bars in town, down by the harbour that make for a rowdy, if not highly entertaining night out for those visiting town.
Unlike a lot of other places on the island, the busiest day for those in Arguineguín is Tuesday, as that is when the town hosts one of the largest markets on the entire Gran Canaria Island. Which serves as both an invitation and also a warning: If you are looking for an amazing, local experience, it is highly recommended that take the time to you Tuesday and is at the market. However, be weary that the immense popularity of the market will make traffic something to deal with. Boat services from Puerto Rico and Puerto Mogán are available. Even if you cannot make it down for the Tuesday market, the harbour is still an exceptional place to visit, just to take a stroll through. Speaking of lovely strolls, there is also a coastal promenade that connects Arguineguín with the beautiful, and scenic beaches and coves of Patalavaca.
Patalavaca is where a lot of the tourism info structures located, with a lot of seafront hotels and rental apartments. The southward location of a lot of these hotels make for incredibly beautiful and romantic sunsets, which are often decorated by the Tenerife Teide (Spain's highest tip) during clear nights.
