Meloneras is known to be an extremely stylish resort, even among the glamorous resorts that are spread all across the Gran Canaria Island. Boasting a bright, and brilliant location on the sun-kissed southern coast of the island, Meloneras is a peaceful resort that has class flowing through every ounce of it, from every square-inch of the foundation all the way out to the beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear water. The resort has more than a few modern shopping centres which contain high-end boutiques as well as designer labels, as well as a wonderful addition of stylish, upper-scale restaurants and bars.
Meloneras beach stretches on for about 500 m and has a nice, wide promenade running alongside it that is dotted with seafood restaurants, as well as shopping centres and bars. The beach runs from a rustic stone lighthouse at the northern end of the resort and the trademark golden sand runs south towards the dunes, where the Sahara-style sand that Maspalomas is known for takes over.
If you find the up-scale stylish atmosphere of Meloneras nice, but are craving a little bit of a more lively beach environment, your needs are easily met as the beaches of Playa del Ingles is just a little ways down the road, and so is Maspalomas, whose beach actually attaches to the resorts, but has far more space for spreading out a beach blanket, throwing up an umbrella and sunbathing in the hot sun, and letting the cool breeze off of the water kiss your warm skin.
Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, there is never a bad time to take a trip to Meloneras. In the winter months the temperature reaches around 18-20 C and come the summer months, those averages jump to the mid- to high-30s. So, you know it will always be beach weather, whether or not you take the plunge in the summer or not.
If soaking in the life of luxury in Meloneras, or relaxing on the Sahara sands of the Maspalomas beach are not how you want to spend every waking hour of your vacation, there are many day trips available for you to take. One of the most popular ones is a trip to the island's capital, Las Palmas. In less than an hour, you can be swapping sand in your toes for culture and taking in everything the beautiful island capital has to offer. Las Palmas is split into several districts, the oldest of them being the UNESCO-backed Vegueta. It is here where you can visit the Casa Muse de Colon, which is thought to have once been the home of Christopher Columbus, and is now a museum completely dedicated to the famous world explorer. In the same district, there is also Santa Ana Cathedral, which took nearly four centuries to complete construction of. Of course, there is a shopping district that you can indulge in, as well. What capital would be complete without one? The Santa Catalina area is fully-loaded with smart boutiques and high-street shops.
