Puerto de Mogan is one of Gran Canaria Island's south-western jewels, as it is highly regarded as one of the most beautiful and picturesque resorts on the island, as well as holding claim to some of the best weather in the world - at least, when it comes to a climate you would want for an amazing beach resort vacation!
On average (in the summer) the temperature lands somewhere between the mid-20s, ranging as high as the mid-30s on very hot days. However, Puerto de Mogan is usually blessed with a cool sea-breeze that refreshes and allows tourists to revel in the heat, rather than melt. Even come the winter months the temperatures stay retentively the same, shifting only a few degrees to the cooler side of the scale, on average.
Families, friends or loved ones who come to Puerto de Mogan for their vacations are most definitely coming to enjoy the beach life, but there is so much more to the resort than just the beautiful waterfront. For instance, there is Little Venice, which is a two-storey apartment complex with rooftop terraces and gardens that are bursting at the seams with palm trees, bird of paradise flowers and hibiscus, as well as many other exotic and colourful plant life. This complex has been constructed around a marina and fishing harbour which gives the entire area a very rustic, old town ambience. There are also restaurants and bars scattered throughout the neighbourhood for your dining and drinking pleasures. True to its namesake, the area has channels between the marina and fishing harbour that pass under arches built into the buildings as well as between the port and the beach. The Hotel Club de Mar has rooms available that overlook the beach as well as the marina, so you can be fully engrossed in what the locals call La Venecia de Canarias, or the Venice of the Canaries.
The beach has seen a lot of development over the last decade or so, as the area directly behind it has been built up with luxurious apartment buildings, but the beach is still covered in soft, golden sand imported from the Sahara. There are plenty of sun loungers, pedaloes, parasols and canoes for rent on the beach, which means you will always be able to be as comfortable, or as adventurous as you want to be while soaking in the sun and the surf in Puerto de Mogan.
The resort offers big-game fishing excursions for those looking to add a little island thrills to their vacation, as well as submarine trips that tour around local ship wreck sites. Of course, when it comes to underwater discovery, there is also diving schools so you can take in the majestic underwater world from outside the submarine.
As one may assume, a lot of the restaurants on and around the resort specialize in serving locally caught fish, as well as Canarian and Spanish speciality dishes. However, there are also Italian, German and Chinese restaurants around the resort if seafood is not your thing.
