Chania is a very interesting town, located on the northern side of west Crete. Around Chania there are plenty of nice beaches, mountains and plains. This part of Crete is known for its rich nature and is the greenest of all regions on the island. Chania is a place full of history and is a very old city. It kept its traditional atmosphere and architecture, and it reminds a bit to the Italian cities of Venice and Florence. The Naval Museum is a great place to learn more about the history of the place and see some nice artifacts. Besides museums, you can go outside of the city limits of Chania and visit some of the many monasteries and churches, and the attractive Samaria Gorge. On the hill above the city of Chania you will find the Venizelos Graves which offer fantastic views on the town. Tabakaria district on the eastern part of Chania is a place where you will find leather processing factories. There you can buy some leather goods of highest quality. This district has a unique architecture and the house designs are very attractive.
Outside of Chania there are plenty of villages to explore. All of them have kept their traditional look and have a very relaxing atmosphere. People sit in taverns, socialize, play cards, chat and enjoy good times. If you have children, you can also go to the water park of Limnoupolis. There are numerous other activities for you to enjoy – from visiting the Falassarna beach, to taking trips to Elafonissi and boat rides to Balos and Gramvousa, Chania has plenty of things to offer to its visitors.
