Georgioupolis Holidays

Georgioupolis is fairly small coastal town, located about forty kilometers away of Chania in the western part of Crete. The countryside around Georgioupolis is very green, and the town has one long beach stretching to almost two kilometers. The weather in Georgioupolis is very nice starting from April up until October, with average temperatures in the mid 20s C.

Around Georgioupolis

Around Georgioupolis there are many nice looking villages and beautiful landscapes. River Almyros flows into the sea in Georgioupolis. In front of the town there is a small lake where you can see many interesting flowers, birds and other animals. At the town`s entrance you will see lots of eucalyptus trees along both sides of the road and also on the main town square.

Georgioupolis Main Square

Georgioupolis` main square is a very popular area for the tourists where many tavernas, restaurants and bars are located. There is a very relaxing atmosphere here and many people use it to rest and enjoy after spending a day on the beach. In Georgioupolis there are lots of shops selling all kinds of goods.

Within walking distance from the main square is the Georgioupolis harbor. The harbor is right in front of the River Almyros, and here you will see lots of fishing boats and boat taxis that can take you to the nearby islands and coasts. River Almyros plays big role in Georgioupolis history, and once this place was also known by the name Almyroupolis. From both sides of the harbor starts the stretch of the Georgioupolis beach. Along the beach there are plenty of restaurants, eateries and cafeterias.

Georgioupolis Harbor

At the harbor`s end there is one attractive lighthouse illuminated in blue and white colors. The biggest landmark on the harbor is the famous church of Agios Nikolaos. The scenery here is very nice and this place is ideal for relaxation and enjoying the beautiful views. If you like to take a long walk, go to the big Tropicana center. Just walk on the side of the beach and you will reach it. You can then take a break there and have a snack or a coffee break. Georgioupolis is a very nice place for all travelers, as it has lots of tourist shops and other shops to meet the needs of every visitor.

Calm and Quaint Georgioupolis

Georgioupolis is not a noisy and loud resort, and the nightlife is relatively low-key. It is ideal for families and couples, as well as for those people that want to have calmer vacation. Young groups can also enjoy here as there are some bars with lively night entertainment. Georgioupolis can also serve as an ideal base for exploring the region or for taking various excursions to nearby tourist places. In the wider area you can go and discover the Apokoronas region where you will find many historic spots, monasteries and nice beaches. Lively resorts of Rethymno and Chania are also close. If you want to go further, you can go to the interesting places of Frangokastello and Sfakia on the southern side of Crete.
