Ixia is a very small resort located on the northwestern side of Rhodes, just about four kilometers away from the capital Rhodes Town. It is a purpose-built holiday resort, and it mainly attracts older generations and families that wish you have a quieter vacation. Nightlife in Ixia is very low-key with just a couple of bars and pubs that usually close around midnight. There are lots of hotels for any budget in this attractive resort, and most of them provide some kind of night entertainment for their guests. In Ixia you will not find many attractions or historic places, as it is mainly resort built for enjoying the beach and swimming. However, it is very close to Rhodes Town and Falariki, so you can always go on excursions to nearby places. Boat trips are also available if you want to explore this northern side of the island.
Ixia has a very nice weather all year long. Average summer temperatures are around 30s C, while September and October are also pleasant months for sunbathing and swimming. Sea temperature is in the mid 20s C, so Ixia has an ideal weather for spending a holiday.
The beach in Ixia is made of sand and pebble, and some parts of the beach are public, while some are operated by the hotels. Ixia also attracts windsurfers due to the moderate winds and nice waves. There are a couple of water sport centers where you can rent jet-skis or water boards. Behind the beach there are several kiosks, markets and tavernas.
Ixia`s shoreline is divided between several separate beaches, and there is a busy main road close by. The beach is children-friendly, but due to the busy road behind, some supervision and caution are advised. Some of the larger hotels have underpasses that lead directly from their properties to the beach. Most of the hotels here have children playgrounds, kids` clubs and offer babysitting services. There are also palm trees planted along the beach, but they do not offer much shade. Beaches are well equipped with parasols and sunbeds for hire, and there are also showers and changing cabins available.
Close to Ixia there are some archaeological sites which you can visit. Filerimos Hill is one very nice place to visit, right above the Trianda village nearby. The climb towards hilltop is done on a steep terrain, so if you are not very fond of walking you can take a taxi to take you to the top. At the top you can admire the old ruins from an ancient Roman temple, and see a Byzantine monastery that offers fantastic views on Rhodes Island.
If you want to explore more then you can go on a short ten minute drive to the capital Rhodes Town. Lots of historic places, shops, bars and other things can be found there and it is one of the places on the island which you must visit. There are hundreds of smaller streets in Rhodes Town where you can spend a relaxing afternoon and admire the old architecture.
