Pefkos Holidays

Pefkos is a popular holiday village located on the eastern side of Rhodes Island. It is just four kilometers away from Lindos and over fifty kilometers away from Rhodes Town. The way in which Pefkos started to become what it is today is very interesting. The village of Pefkos was once a fishing and agricultural summer base for people that lived in the communities further inland. Because of the heat and the duration of the working day they often decided to spend the night there, so they started building houses. The scenery around Pefkos is very nice with lots of pine trees and lush greenery, and those that appreciate the nature will love this place. Even the name ‘Pefkos’ translates into ‘pine tree’ due to the fact that pine trees are rapidly growing everywhere in the area.

Pefkos Facilities

At first glance, Pefkos looks like a peaceful travel destination, but at night it turns into a very lively place. There are two main streets full of bars and restaurants, and the village constantly grows year after year. New hotels and other tourist facilities are emerging all the time, but Pefkos has kept its traditional Greek charm. Pefkos attracts tourists of all age groups, but it is also known as a very attractive romantic getaway for couples.

Pefkos weather is very nice and warm, like most places on Rhodes Island. Average summer temperatures are near 30 C, with July and August being the hottest months of the year. September is also a great month to visit when both air and sea temperatures are pleasantly warm.

Pefkos Beach

Pefkos has one top quality beach awarded with Blue Flag for quality. It is made of golden sand and there is a pine forest behind. At one end of the beach you will find nice rocky coves, ideal for snorkelers. Most popular water sport options here are windsurfing and kite surfing. Waters are clear and shallow, which makes the beach ideal for children. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, as well as some cafés and bars near the beach.

Pefkos Nightlife

When it comes to nightlife, Pefkos has quite a few good cocktail bars, pubs, and live music bars. There are also some sports bars where you can enjoy watching popular sporting events, and a few romantic beach bars. In Pefkos there are restaurants and tavernas for any taste. Besides fish tavernas serving locally caught fresh fish, you can also go to one of the many restaurants that serve international cuisines.

Besides enjoying on the beach you can go and visit some of the local bazaars in Pefkos. There are all kinds of handicrafts and souvenirs which you can buy at these bazaars. Besides souvenirs, you can buy some quality ceramics, locally produced olive oil and honey, as well as many woven goods. From Pefkos you can go on numerous boat trips to explore the eastern coast of Rhodes. Especially attractive is the glass bottom boat ride, taking you to some of the most popular resorts and beaches nearby. Pefkos also offers great opportunities for fishing, and you can even hire a boat and explore the island on your own.
