Kalathos is a nice and small holiday village located on the eastern side of Rhodes Island. It is about 45 kilometers away from the capital Rhodes Town and is very close to Lindos. It is situated on the Kalathos Bay, and it has still kept its original Greek charm. It is still not spoiled by the mass tourism, although it is constantly developing year after year. Kalathos is ideal for those that look for a quiet and peaceful holiday, away from the big crowds and noise. It is a great destination for families with children and couples. Kalathos village is located on a hillside, while the shingle beach is around fifteen minutes walk away. The weather in Kalathos is almost always nice and sunny, with average temperatures near 30 C in the summer months. Besides the beach there are not many things to see in Kalathos, although on the northern end of the beach you will find an old airstrip together with a control tower as relics from the World War II.
In the village of Kalathos everything revolves around the few tavernas, some gift shops and several mini-markets. There are no discos or nightclubs in Kalathos, and the nighttime entertainment is focused on a few smaller cafès and quieter bars. If you want a livelier nightlife you can visit the nearby resort of Lindos which has plenty of bars and pubs. If that is still not enough, further away is the Faliraki resort, known as a great place for partying and night entertainment.
Kalathos can serve as a great base for exploring the island. Besides car rentals there are also frequent bus lines that go towards north and south of the island. You can spend a quiet holiday here and use the time to explore the wider region on the eastern side of Rhodes Island.
