Tucked away on the southern coast of Tenerife, the beautiful little resort of Golf del Sur is absolutely heaven on Earth for, well, golfers.
The resort is located near the Tenerife airport, but the planes do not cause a stir or take anything away from the charm of lovely southern resort.
At this resort, not surprisingly, everything revolves around golf, which is not a bad thing because golf courses are known for their lush greens and perfectly trimmed fairways. Here those normal landscape features are accented with palm trees, ravines and a plethora of indigenous plants. Of course, there are also driving ranges and club houses scattered all over the place. Tourists and locals alike flock to this volcanic island by the thousands to partake in the game of golf at one of the courses on the island, including the 27-hole championship course that is a form of living art.
Of course, golf is not the ONLY thing that Golf del Sur has to offer its many tourists. There are all of the clichés of the hot Spanish sun, warm water and ice cold drinks. The resort offers beautiful scenic walks along the coast, which includes a few steep hills leading you all the way along the shoreline. There are many paths you can take many of the which are fully loaded with pews and benches to provide a little bit of rest, or feet to just sit back and soak in the beautiful view, basking in the warm sun and the beautiful blue sky. The walk starts in Amarilla Golf and runs all the way across Golf del Sur, making stops along the way in a various small towns such as San Blas. It is here in San Blas that you'll find the islands commercial center which is home to a square full of people, shops decadent restaurants and fully stocked bars. By day this is the perfect place to enjoy a few tapas and people watch, however, come night time the town takes on a complete different tone as music takes over all the bars and restaurants and diners shift their focus to a more party friendly atmosphere fuelled by flowing liquor and cheap beer. Really, what is better than a day of golfing followed by live music and good drinks?
When it comes to restaurants in the area, there's a lot of serving up traditional Canarian or Spanish foods, though you will be able to find a few that dabble in English fodder if your culinary palate is feeling a little homesick.
Of course, there is also Golf del Sur's only nightclub: Taboo's. The club usually plays fair mix of dance and house music, whatever it takes to get the crowd moving. The good news about the club here, is that you're never too old to enjoy a good party while you're on holidays. After all, if you are not going to be embarrassing yourself on the golf course, you might as well be embarrassing yourself on the dance floor with people of all ages, and every ethnic background.
