La Caleta is one of the smallest and calmest holiday resorts in Tenerife. However, its popularity constantly rises over the years and from just a tiny fishing village it became a place for a relaxing holiday. It is located in the southern part of Tenerife, just a few kilometers from the very popular Playa de las Americas. La Caleta is also very close to the larger resort Costa Adeje. Although La Caleta is much quieter than Costa Adeje, it can soon become a part of Costa Adeje as that resort is rapidly expanding towards La Caleta.La Caleta Weather
La Caleta has a pleasant climate all year long. Between the months of May and September there is virtually no rainfall. The average annual temperature is 20 C, while the warmest months are August and September with average temperatures of about 26 C.
If you want a very peaceful and quiet atmosphere, then La Caleta is a place for you. The town has one stylish promenade made of stones that goes along some beautiful pools with saltwater. One of the pools even has a nice waterfall. In La Caleta you will mostly find fish restaurants, some of which are pretty good, along with a few bars and some restaurants. Some hotels have their own private bars as well. Nightlife in La Caleta is not rich, but there are some fine fish restaurants with amazing sea views.
La Caleta has one beach called La Enramada which is about 300 meters long. The beach is a mix of rocks, coarse sand and pebbles. The sea water is pretty clean, but sometimes the sea is not very calm and there are big waves. This is because the beach is not very protected from winds. In the summer months you can rent sunshades and lounges on the beach, and other good thing regarding the beach is that it offers free parking spots and quick access to several toilets. This beach is not very suitable for children, as there are lots of rocks and sometimes large waves. However, if you take a short fifteen minute walk east of the resort – you will reach one beautiful sandy beach called Playa de Duque. North of La Caleta you will find one very popular nudist beach called Playa de Diego Hernandez. However, non-nudists can visit this place too.
Although small, La Caleta attracted some big hotel chains in the recent years, such as the 5-star hotel Sheraton. Sheraton also offers some fun, because here you can enjoy swimming in three outside pools. Besides that, there are four restaurants within the hotel and a nice kids club.
Another interesting thing to do in La Caleta is to join a quad bike safari. There a few interesting trips, including rocky trail trip or exploring the forests. Couple of kilometers away from La Caleta is the popular and very large Costa Adeje golf course. Around the golf course there are some luxurious villas that have amazing views on the sea. Besides walking on the main promenade, other things to try in La Caleta involve surfing, snorkeling or diving.
