Glastros is located on the western side of the Mykonos Island, just one kilometer south of Mykonos Town. It is not exactly a village, but just a small settlement close to the Mykonos airport. It is a perfect place for spending a quiet, relaxing vacation, but still very close to all the major places on the island. It is a very popular place for couples looking to spend a romantic holiday away from the crowds, but still close to the top attractions. There are several hotels and many holiday houses in Glastros. The location of the settlement is great, as it is very close to the most popular beaches on Mykonos and is within a short walking distance of Mykonos Town. Glastros is also well connected with other places on the Island with bus lines.
The weather in Glastros is very nice all year long, and summers are the best for visiting the place. July and August have average temperatures of around 30 C, with twelve hours of sunshine per day. May, June and September are also great months for spending a holiday, without too much tourists and average temperatures in the upper 20s C. Winter months have average temperatures of 10 C, with a few hours of sunshine per day.
The closest beach is in Mykonos Town, but you can also go opposite to the Ftelia beach which is larger beach and less crowded. The main beach in Mykonos Town offers plenty of options for water sports such as scuba diving, pedaling, jet skiing, etc. but Ftelia beach offers more relaxing and more comfortable experience for families with children.
Glastros has a beautiful landscape which you can explore best if you take long walks or rent a bike. From Glastros you can also take a ferry and go on an excursion around the island. The close proximity to Mykonos Town means that you can spend days wandering on the streets of the largest town and discover many different things. In Mykonos Town you have plenty of options when it comes to dining or shopping.
Glastros does not have much to offer when it comes to restaurants and bars, but in close distance of the settlement you will find plenty of tavernas, fish restaurants, eateries and places where you can relax and enjoy drinks. In Glastros dining is limited to what the hotels have to offer in their restaurants. On the other side, Mykonos Town has plenty of Greek, British, Italian and Chinese restaurants to choose from. When it comes to nightlife, Glastros is very low-key place without clubs or bars outside of the hotels. If you are interested in more active nightlife – Mykonos Town is once again the place to go for wide selection of pubs, clubs and bars.
Interesting places to visit near Glastros include the Little Venice in Mykonos Town, The Windmills overlooking Little Venice, Paraportiani Church and the Mykonos Folk Museum. Psarou beach and Paradise beach are also very close and well worth visiting.
