Alikanas Holidays

Alikanas is a very small traditional Greek village, located on the northeastern side of Zakynthos Island. It is ten kilometers away from the Zakyntos Town and fifteen kilometers from the nearest airport. The village of Alykes is the closest village to Alikanas, just one kilometer away. Alikanas has very nice lush green scenery and it sits between lots of vineyards and olive groves. It is a quiet holiday destination, perfect for spending family holidays. The atmosphere is very relaxing and friendly, and it becomes very lively in the peak of the summer season.

Alikanas Weather

Alikanas has a very nice weather all year long. Summers are usually very hot, with July and August being the hottest months with average temperatures of 30 C. June and September are also very pleasant months with average temperatures in the mid 20s C.

Alikanas Culture

In the recent years Alikanas became an important archaeological place on Zakynthos. Some ancient Mycenaean vessels were found in the excavations around the village, and that led some people to believe that the ancient Greek city of Arcadia was once located here. Just outside of Alikanas you will find the old village of Alikanas. This old part has kept its authentic Greek atmosphere, and is a very quiet and beautiful place.

Alikanas has one long beach which stretches from the neighboring village of Alykes. The sand is very soft and waters are clear. There are plenty of possibilities for water sports on the beach, including paragliding, banana boat riding, pedaloes and kayaks, and lots of others. Near the beach you will find a few nice tavernas and bars where you can enjoy a drink or have a nice meal.

Alikanas has a few quality fish restaurants and local tavernas that serve Greek cuisine. There are also some restaurants that offer International and Zakynthian cuisine. Besides that you will also find a couple of grill houses, as well as Indian and Chinese restaurants. The nightlife in Alikanas is very low-key, mainly focused around couple of cocktail bars and pubs. Sometimes in the summer season the bars organize karaoke nights or other forms of entertainment for their guests.

Alikanas Shopping

When it comes to shopping, the center of the village has a few gift and jewelry shops, souvenir shops and shops that sell leather products. There are many mini-markets where you will find everything you need for your holiday. In Alikanas you can also buy some delicious local products such as pasteli and mantolato.

Alikanas Outdoor Activites

Some activities which you can do in Alikanas include cycling, hiking and horseback riding. For the golf enthusiasts there is one mini-golf court, and for the children there is one very popular trampoline and a small park where they can play. If you want to explore more, you can take a daily train and visit the interesting Vertzagio Agricultural Museum in the village of Pigadiakia. You can also hire a carriage that can take you to the nearby village of Alykes. The short ride is ideal for admiring the nice scenery and enjoying the nature.
