Zakynthos Town Holidays

Zakynthos Town, or also known as Zante Town, is the capital of Zakynthos and is located on the eastern coast of the island. The town has a very nice architecture with majority of the buildings built in Venetian style. Zakynthos Town has all kinds of interesting things to offer, with plenty of things to see. Being the commercial center of the island, it regularly attracts visitors from all over the world. The town itself does not have many beaches, but it can serve as a great base for exploring the island. Zakynthos Town has a very nice weather throughout the year, with average summer temperatures near 30 C. Due to the mild winters there is lush green scenery everywhere around the town.

Zakynthos Town Beach

Zakynthos` main beach is located in the north part of the town. It is made of small pebbles and the waters are shallow and calm. The beach is not very wide and is often crowded, but there are some nice parks near the beach for relaxing. Zakynthos is very children-friendly town, with Solomou Square being the center of all activities. On the square there are all kinds of children facilities that keep the kids entertained at all times.

Zakynthos Shopping Facilities

Zakynthos Town is a great place for shopping. Rouga Square is the most famous spot where you will find all kinds of shops selling different things, ranging from quality clothing to accessories, local products, gifts or jewelry. You will also find lots of tavernas and restaurants in the town, and most of them can be found along the busy main road which leads to the harbor. The nightlife is good, although not very wild. There are several bars and pubs with live music and a couple of clubs that host parties during the peak of the season. August is a month full of different festivities in Zakynthos Town. At the end of the month there is one big open market held near the St.Dionysios Church, where you can find a wide variety of things. The festivities end with a big parade in the town.

Getting around Zakynthos Town

In Zakynthos Town there are plenty of places that you can visit. On the Solomou Square you can visit the Museum of Byzantine Arts and the Library where you can get familiar with the history of the island. St.Mark`s medieval square is another place to visit where you will find the beautiful Catholic Church. St.Dionysios Church is the main church of the island, named after the patron saint of Zakynthos. In this church you will see some amazing frescoes and interesting art collection. Probably the most famous site in the town is the Venetian Fortress dating from the 17th century. It is located on the hilltop near the town and is an impressive place to visit. Another place to visit is the Strata Marina, which is the busiest spot in Zakynthos Town. This main road leads all the way to the harbor, which is a great spot for relaxing and enjoying great sea views.
