Tragaki is a small picturesque village located on the north coast of Zakynthos. It is an inland village situated on a hill, between vineyards and olive gardens. It is around ten kilometers away from the capital Zakynthos Town, and most of its inhabitants work in the agriculture. Tragaki is far from the crowded beaches and party destinations, but it is perfect place for spending a relaxing holiday or for going on an excursion. Although Tragaki is not a seaside village it is still very close to a few nearby beaches. From Tragaki you can also enjoy amazing views on the sea. Just a short downhill trip from Tragaki will take you to the lively village of Tsilivi where you will find great beaches.
Tragaki weather is almost always pleasant, with average summer temperatures of 28 C. Spring and autumn months are ideal for going on sightseeing tours around the village and in the wider region. December and January are the wettest months, but winters are mild with temperatures rarely going down below 10 C.
Most of the beaches can be reached within half-an-hour walk from Tragaki. Renting a car or bike is advisable, as there is no public transport in the area. The nearest beach is in Tsilivi, stretching for a couple of kilometers. The beach is nice and sandy and well equipped with necessary facilities. Ampoula beach is also very close and has a Blue Flag award for quality. Other beaches which you can visit in the region include Drosia, Planos and Pahia Ammos. The cove in the nearby Kato Tragaki is ideal for those that want to take part in different water sport activities. Tragaki has quite a few apartments and some hotels where you can spend your holiday. Also many people are visiting Tragaki because of the few good campsites located nearby. Near the village of Tragaki you will find a couple of quality campsites. One is called Paradise and the other one is Zante. Zante campsite is well equipped and it has one big supermarket, one restaurant and a swimming pool.
The area around Tragaki has a few historical spots and churches to visit. You can go hiking in the area and enjoy the beautiful nature. The main thing to see in Tragaki is the ancient monastery of Spilia, located on the top of the nearby hill. There is also a small cave near Spilia Monastery which you can visit. Many beautiful beaches and well known resorts are not very far from Tragaki as well. In Tragaki you will also find the Avouri theatre. That is the place where lots of interesting cultural activities, musical performances and theatrical plays are held during the summer months. Sometimes there are artistic exhibitions and other happenings to entertain the visitors of Tragaki. If you want to explore more, Zakynthos Town is about half-an-hour drive away along the coast. There you can visit plenty of historic spots, museums, churches, monasteries, or you can relax in some of the many restaurants and tavernas.
