International Drive Holidays

International Drive, Orlando - otherwise known as I-Drive - is a nearly 18 km drive found in Orlando, Florida, located just a few kilometers to the southwest of downtown Orlando. This drive is home to the bulk of the cities tourist hotspots, similar to the Las Vegas Strip, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Orange County Convention Center

I-Drive if the home of the Orange County Convention Cente, the Pointe Orlando entertainment complex, as well as quite a few major hotels, SeaWorld and the Orlando Eye Farris Wheel. There are also numerous museums, theme to restaurants, bars and outlet malls. Universal Orlando also makes its home in this area.

International Drive History

The initial portion of I-Drive was first laid out in the 1960s, and was meant to service the Hilton in South, which opened a few years later. The mind behind both the drive and the hotel was Finley Hamilton, who hoped that the hotel would succeed once Walt Disney World open in 1971. In 1992, the International Drive master trains and improvement District was put into development. The purpose was to manage and improve the massive growth and transportation issues that face the area. Because of this there is now the I-Ride bus trolley system that can transport tourists up and down the Drive, so that no matter where you stay you can partake in any adventure you and your traveling partners wish to partake in.

Sight Seeing in International Drive

One of the sights that truly needs to be seen when staying anywhere on International Drive is the Orlando Eye. Located at the heart of the I-Drive 360 Complex, this 400 foot tall observation deck delivers picturesque, breath taking views of Central Florida as it stretches out in every direction. You can also indulge the family-friendly line-up of attractions located in the same complex such as, the world-renown Madame Tussaud's, SEA LIFE Aquarium and SKELETONS: Animals Unveiled. You any family can also eat, drink and play and numerous family-friendly hotspots around the Drive, such as Dave & Busters.

Dining in International Drive

Whether you are traveling with your friends, with your family, over on a trip with just a loved one, International Drive is home to so many restaurants and bars that you will be able to find any gastronomic venture that you and your travel partners could possibly want to engage in, such as Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, or you could go Scottish and indulge in the Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery. Of course, you could turn dinner into an adventure on its own by unleashing your inner detective and launching into a world of comedy and mystery at Sleuths Mystery Dinner Theater.

Golfing in International Drive

Located just off of the Drive are a few championship golf courses, just in case theme parks, museums and beaches are your thing ... Or at least if you do not want to partake in those things for you for your entire vacation.

Because all of the theme parks, museums, and even golf courses are open all year round - thanks to the beautiful Florida weather - there is no bad time to visit International Drive, Orlando.
