Benitses village is situated right in the middle of the Corfu Island, just over ten kilometers south from the capital Corfu Town. It has a pleasant weather starting from May until September, with July and August being the hottest months with average temperatures in the low 30s C.
Benitses was once known as a very lively and wild resort, attracting mainly younger tourists seeking rich nightlife and partying. However, that dramatically changed in the recent years, as most of the youngsters moved towards Kavos and Benitses reinvented itself as a family-friendly resort. It is also a suitable place for couples seeking a quieter and calmer holiday.
Today, there are a few quality restaurants, bars and smaller Tavernas where you can enjoy a meal or a drink in a quiet atmosphere. There is even one Chinese restaurant here, and a couple of internet cafés that are also equipped with pool tables and gaming consoles. In the town you will find plenty of souvenir and handmade shops, as well as bigger supermarkets. The center of town is relatively quiet and very much different from a few years ago. However, there are still some younger tourists that come here for fun, but not like in the past.
Benitses is separated in two parts - south and north. The southern part of the resort is quieter and that is the place where most of the exclusive holidaymakers are going. The northern part is livelier and the better part of the beach is located here. On the northern part you will also find most of the restaurants and bars.
Although it is now mostly family oriented resort, Benitses does not have a sandy beach. The beach is shingle and pebble, and sometimes it can be a bit difficult for tourists to enter and get out of the water. However, the beach is awarded with Blue Flag for quality and it is well equipped with changing cabins, showers and toilets. Beach has been enlarged recently and there is plenty of space for everyone. There are plenty of sunbeds for hire, as laying on pebble may not be that comfortable. There are some options for water sports on the beach, although not too many. There are many boat trips that start from here and go to the capital Corfu Town, or to the attractive nearby place called the Mouse Island.
In Benitses you can also visit the famous shell museum. There you can see sea shells in all kinds of forms and from many different places. Besides shells there are some interesting stuffed sea fish, sea urchins, as well as shark bones and jaws. If you are fan of hiking, there are some nice paths and trails that lead into the nearby hills where you will find some very nice and cold water springs. Benitses also has some remains of old Roman baths located in the town. If you want to explore more you can take a bus or taxi and visit Messonghi or Morraitika, both towns located just a few kilometers south of Benitses.
