Gouvia Holidays

Gouvia used to be a tiny fishing village in the past, but now is one of the most visited holiday resorts on Corfu Island. The village is located on the eastern part of the Island, and is well connected to the main airport and the capital Corfu Town. The distance of just eight kilometers between Corfu Town and Gouvia makes Gouvia one of the liveliest resorts in the summer months. Gouvia`s location in the center of the Corfu Island makes it a perfect place for exploring the island by motorbike or a car. Like on most places on Corfu Island, summers in Gouvia are dry and hot, while winters are not very cold. Ionian Sea is a bit cooler than the Aegean, but the difference in temperature is not that big. Sea temperature is in the upper 20s C on average.

Gouvia today is an ideal spot for spending a holiday for families with children and young couples, but it attracts people of all ages. The village is built on an ancient site where once there was a Venetian harbor. Gouvia has one big marina that attracts yachts and ships from everywhere. Locals are very friendly and helpful, and the whole village has a nice, friendly atmosphere.

Gouvia Beaches

Gouvia has several beaches. Some are sandy and some are of pebbles and shingle. There are also some nice little coves very close to the resort`s center. Beaches can be easily accessed and everything is within short walking distance. Beaches are also children-friendly, and there are many water sport facilities that offer all kinds of water sports. If you prefer being dry, you can go horseback riding or hiking in the nearby hills. There are plenty of nice citrus plantations and olive trees around Gouvia.

Gouvia Bars & Restaurants

Gouvia has a wide selection of all kinds of bars and restaurants that serve Greek, Italian, British, Mexican or Chinese food. Most of the shops are located on the main street in the middle of the resort. Here you will find lots of interesting souvenirs and handmade things.

Outside of Gouvia

If you want to explore the wider region around Gouvia, you can head out to the nearby Kontokali holiday resort. There you can sit back and relax in the lively area around the marina, while watching great sunsets. In between Kontokali and Gouvia are the remains of the old Venetian harbor. A couple of kilometers north is the small Komeno village, surrounded and protected by beautiful green hills. During the summer there are many festivals going on, especially on religious holidays. Another typical Greek village is Danilia, located just one kilometer away from Gouvia. Interesting architecture, as well as different folklore shows and performances is what attracts people to this place.

Gouvia resort is a nice, family-oriented destination that can meet the expectations of any tourist. There are plenty of things to do and see.
