Messonghi Holidays

Messonghi is a smaller, but popular resort on Corfu`s southern side. It is located about twenty kilometers from Corfu Town. Once a fishing village, now a holiday resort, Messonghi mostly attracts families, older couples and not too many young people. Messonghi is separated with its close neighbor Moraitika by a river that flows directly to the sea. On both parts of the river you will find many tourist facilities and nice beaches. Due to its location between olive groves and scenic green hills, Messonghi is ideal for those people that seek a place where they can fully relax. The weather in Messonghi is very nice and warm, starting from the Easter holidays in spring up until the beginning of October. The average temperatures between April and October range from 25 to 35 C.

Messonghi Bars & Restaurants

Messonghi has many tavernas and restaurants, where most of the nightlife is focused. There are a few quiet bars, but the close Moraitika has a bit wider choice when it comes to bars and cafés. Messonghi is best for couples or families that want to stay away from loud and crowded resorts. In Messonghi you will find a few general stores, souvenir shops, supermarkets and foreign exchange offices. There are also some nice little shops that sell Greek ceramics to the tourists.

Messonghi Beaches

The beach in Messonghi is nice and sandy with smaller pebbles. Sea waters are shallow, calm and warm, which makes the beach very suitable for children. The beach is not overly crowded even in the peak of summer season. The beach provides great views on the Greek main coast and to the Albanian coastline. Parasols, sunbeds and other beach equipment are available for you to hire. However, the beach is wide enough so you can just choose to lay down on a beach towel if that is what you prefer. On the beach you will also find plenty of changing cabins and showers, and behind the beach there are a few tavernas and shops where you can get some refreshments. In general, Messonghi is a nice spot for spending a quiet vacation; it is close to the capital city and many other bigger resorts, but without too much noise and crowds.

Shopping in Messonghi

When it comes to shops, Messonghi has a fair amount of shops that sell all kinds of things ranging from beachwear to souvenirs and other tourist things. Local tavernas and bars are often organizing karaoke or dance nights for tourist entertainment. If you seek better and bigger night entertainment you can go on the other side of the river, in the village of Moraitika, where your will find lots of lively night bars.

Other Activies

Besides spending time sunbathing and swimming, in Messonghi you can hire pedaloes or you can try parasailing. You can also take boat trips on the river or you can join in one of the many excursions that go around the island or to the nearby smaller islands. Although a smaller resort in comparison to others, Messonghi still has many nice things to offer for those that want to have a relaxing vacation.
