Roda is a peaceful, family-oriented holiday resort located on the northern side of Corfu Island. It is surrounded by olive groves and green trees, and the village has a very nice relaxing atmosphere. The distance between the capital Corfu Town and Roda is around forty kilometers. This holiday village is mostly visited by British tourists and it became a really busy resort in the recent years. Despite the development, Roda still kept some of its original Greek charm. Here you will find many nice hotels, shops and restaurants that offer traditional English meals. Roda has a very nice climate. Summer months are not extremely hot, with months of July and August being the warmest with average temperatures of 27 C. Average winter temperatures are around 10 C, while spring months are also pleasant with temperatures around 20 C.
In Roda there are lots of mini-markets and other shops for tourist needs. There are also plenty of tavernas, cafés and bars. Some bars organize karaoke nights and other interesting music nights for tourist entertainment.
Roda has one great beach stretching for a few kilometers. It is made of sand and shingle and is very flat. Roda shares its beach with the nearby resort of Acharavi. The beach has a Blue Flag for its quality and it is usually very clean, despite so many tourists on it. Waters here are fairly shallow and clear, which makes it ideal for swimming, paddling or other water activities such as jet skiing or parasailing. On the eastern end of the beach there are some steep drops into the sea, but generally the beach is very children-friendly. Beach does not have a natural shade in the summer months, but there are plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds for hire. Beach can be easily accessed directly from the main road. At one end of the beach the local fisherman are bringing their catch of the day, and this is also the starting and end point of boat excursions.
Roda village has one nice pedestrian strip which connects the village with the beach. Along the strip there are fair share of bars, shops and international restaurants. Some tavernas are often organizing Greek nights or live music shows for their guests.
In the center of Roda village you can go see the church of Saint George, dating back from the 17th century. Besides the church you can also see the ancient ruins of the Apollo Temple, dating back from the fifth century B.C. Outside of Roda there is a very nice and picturesque countryside where you can go hiking or horseback riding. The nearby resort of Acharavi is less than a half an hour walk. If you are an experienced hiker you can go to Episkepi located just below the Mount Pantokrator, from where you have amazing views on the sea and the island. Roda can also serve as a good base for exploring the wider region. From Roda you can go on trips to Sidari, Kassiopi, Paleokastritsa or Mount Pantokrator.
