Blanes Holidays

Blanes was once known as a small fishing town in Costa Brava in Spain, but now it is a popular holiday destination known for its diversity, natural beauty and nice beaches. S'Abanell and Blanes beach are two very popular beaches in this town. Blanes beach attracts newcomers and water sport lovers, while at S`Abanell beach you can find lots of coves and cliffs, and this beach is visited by more experienced swimmers and adventurists.

Streets of Blanes are usually very lively in the summer months, when local fiestas are taking place in the town. Botanical gardens are great places to visit, which will relax you and give you peace of mind. What makes Blanes extra special is the easy connection to secluded, private beaches, taverns and markets. Scuba diving, jet skiing, parasailing or fishing are some of the activities which can be enjoyed in this beautiful spot.

Blanes Weather

Blanes climate is almost similar like in the other places on the Costa Brava region. July and August are the hottest months, and you can enjoy swimming and sunbathing starting from early May until late October. August is usually the month when Blanes is full of tourists and the place is often crowded.

Blanes Attractions

Among other attractions, Sa Forcanera cove is a great place to visit, but it cannot be accessed by land, only by sea. You can see Sa Forcanera cove if you visit Marimutra botanical garden, and you can access the place if you take a longer swim or by kayaking to the place. You will find lots of interesting cliffs and a beautiful tiny beach there. Speaking of Marimutra botanical garden, the place is known as one of the best gardens in Europe. For a small entrance fee you can enjoy a wonderful nature which will leave you breathless.

Despite being a relatively small town, in Blanes you can also see plenty of modern and gothic buildings. Cabrera's Palace, Esperanza's Chapel and the Gothic fountain are all ancient places to see, built in a characteristic architecture from ancient times. Sant Joan Castle, which is located on the top of the mountain that bears that name, is another must-see place. This castle has been built in the 18th century, and from there you can enjoy the best view on the entire town. In the past this castle was used for defending Blanes from pirates. You can climb up the castle free of charge.

Festa Major

One of the most attractive things regarding Blanes is the summer fiesta called Festa Major. Festa Major is a festival celebrating the Saints Joaquim and Anna, and it is held in the last week of the month of July. The festival lasts for full eight days and ends with a stunning fireworks contest. The contest often attracts a few hundred thousand tourists from all nearby areas. Half a million kilos of fireworks are being used for every event and people usually enjoy watching fireworks while sitting on the beach.
