Sant Joan Castle, which is located on the top of the mountain that bears that name, is another must-see place. This castle has been built in the 18th century, and from there you can enjoy the best view on the entire town. In the past this castle was used for defending Blanes from pirates. One of the most attractive things regarding Blanes is the summer fiesta called Festa Major. Festa Major is a festival celebrating the Saints Joaquim and Anna, and it is held in the last week of the month of July. The festival lasts for full eight days and ends with a stunning fireworks contest. The contest often attracts a few hundred thousand tourists from all nearby areas. Half a million kilos of fireworks are being used for every event and people usually enjoy watching fireworks while sitting on the beach.
