Calella Holidays

Calella is a small holiday resort, just a half an hour drive from Barcelona, Spain. Due to its proximity to Barcelona there are trains that go every half an hour to and from Barcelona, which is great if you want to explore more of this attractive tourist region. Calella`s beaches are a couple of kilometers long, and here you can find both rocky and sandy beaches. Not only that, but there are some beaches in Calella which are specifically designed for nudists, so everyone can find a place according to the personal needs. Most of the beaches have blue flags, and the waters are perfectly clear. Calella has warm springs and autumns, hot summers and mild winters. Many tourists are using Calella as a primary base for visiting Barcelona and other nearby attractions in the province of Catalonia.

Calella Summer Activities

Standard summer activities such as swimming, kayaking, beach volleyball, water polo, windsurfing, tennis and aerobics, as well as the very wide beaches also attract families that have small children. There are plenty of hotels and other accommodation around the beaches in Calella. Hotels offer plenty of children activities for free. In Calella you can find many local activities which you can visit, such as festivals, parades, parties, carnivals and concerts.

Calella Old Quarter

If you want to experience the real Calella you should visit the town`s Old Quarter where you can take a walk to its narrow streets, and where you will feel like going back in the past. Santa Maria church is located in this old part, which attracts many international travelers that come to this place. The square in front of the church is a scene where many festivals occur during different religious holidays.

Casa del los Salvador

Casa del los Salvador is another one of Calella`s attractions. It is designed in Gothic style from the 14th century, and it has a stunning look. If you want to learn more about the history of the town, then you should head to the Municipal Archives Museum where you can browse through thousands of documents and artifacts from the town. Calella`s lighthouse is a main attraction, built on a rocky place a couple of centuries ago.

Calella Promenade

On the promenade, which is located in the older part of Calella, you can take nice, long, relaxing walks between banana trees, tapas bars, taverns and local restaurants. Nearby mountain offers great opportunity for hiking, walking or cycling. The mountain behind Calella also offers a breathtaking view on the whole town and the sea.

Calella Summer Carnival

Calella is well known for its summer Carnival held every year, where you can see lots of street parades, local parties, dancing competitions and nice fireworks. Other festivals which can be attended here is the Catalonian Festival of Roses, Sant Jordi Concert, Festimatje festival which celebrates photography and movies, summer musical and dance festivals, Minerva Festival and International Festival of Music Bands. If you are a music lover then you will also enjoy live flamenco, jazz, classic, rock, pop and other types of music every weekend starting from June until September on the most attractive spots in the town.
