Spain Resorts

Playa de Aro is a small, but lively resort in this wide tourist region. It has a long beach that runs along a promenade, and right behind it there are many restaurants and bars. There is also a nice, small marina on the south side of the main beach. Playa de Aro is in the middle of the Costa Brava region, in the north-east part of Spain. The town is built on a flat terrain, and inlands of the town lay the Les Gavarres Mountains. Interestingly, the town is separated on two parts. The first part is the old fishing village called Castel de Aro and the second part is the newer resort place called Playa de Aro. Like most of the places in the region, Playa de Aro developed from a small village to a tourist holiday spot. Weather is always nice and pleasantly warm, which is why this place is frequented by tourists throughout the whole year.

Town center of Playa de Aro has many traditional houses with low, red-roofed houses. Streets are narrow and charming, and there are many nice pine trees along the way. The town gets especially lively at weekends, when locals and tourists mix up and go shopping in the town or sit in the taverns and restaurants.

Although Playa de Aro is a small town, it still offers a wide range of different amenities, ranging from smaller theme parks, fast-food places and tourist shops to sophisticated bars, fancy clothing stores, boutiques and good restaurants.

Playa de Aro Attractions

During daytime you can visit the Aquadiver water park, Cineplex Theater, take a walk to the nearby place San Antonio de Calonge or rent a boat. Nightlife offers several modern discotheques, night clubs, pubs and bars for any taste. They all work until the early hours of the morning and there is fun for different music tastes.

A few interesting places to visit is the ancient Roman settlement, Benedormiens Castles, Merce Rodoreda Library or the Church of Fanals de Amunt. In summer there are some nice jazz festivals held in the evenings, and many people also enjoy the Beer Festival, Carnival and the medieval evenings in the Castel de Aro. There are also some free tours that you can enjoy and explore the ancient culture.

Playa de Aro Coastline

Playa de Aro has a beautiful coastline with one long beach and many coves. The main beach called Platja Gran is very wide. It starts with a marina at one end and ends with a large rock called Cavall Bernat on the other end. If you want to enjoy on a smaller beach then you can go to the beach called Cala Del Canyers which is located outside of the town.

Besides beach activities and visiting different places, here you also have an opportunity to go hiking in the beautiful green area right above the town. There are lots of hiking trails in the Les Gavarres Mountains, where you can explore the beautiful nature and enjoy breathtaking views on the sea.
