The capital city of Kefalonia – Argostoli, is the main port of the island, located on the eastern side of a beautiful peninsula. It is surrounded by verdant forests and mountains and has a natural bay. The town is very cosmopolitan, with distinct architecture and beautiful colors. The bridge has gone through some remodeling over the years, and today it stands as a historical monument of the period when the British ruled the island in the 19th century.
Other than the bridge, you should also visit the rich Archaeological Museum of Kefalonia, where you will see lots of sculptures, vases, coins, sculptures, swords, weapons and other artifacts from the Roman and Hellenistic periods. Korgialeneios Library is another great place to visit. It houses over fifty thousand books, historical documents and manuscripts that are several centuries old. Besides the library there is also a museum where you will see lots of old costumes, jewelry, tools and other interesting households utensils from the 19th century. Near to the library is the popular Kefalos Theatre, also well worth seeing. The Lighthouse of Saint Theodore is just about couple of kilometers outside of Argostoli and is one of the top landmarks of Kefalonia. From there you can enjoy amazing views on the sea.
