Myrtos Bay is situated in the Pylaros region, in the northwestern part of Kefalonia Island. It is about thirty kilometers away from the capital Argostoli. Myrtos beach is one of the most famous and most attractive beaches in Greece, and is regularly voted as one of the top ten beaches in the country. The beach is made of white, shiny cobblestones and it is backed by huge limestone cliffs. The crystal-clear, warm turquoise sea water constantly attracts tourists from everywhere. The entire scenery is spectacular and it offers some amazing views. That is why this beach was used as a filming location for the popular movie “Captain Corelli`s Mandolin” over a decade ago. The beach is very clean, and is organized in a semicircular way. There are plenty of sun-loungers, sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, and there is a small unspoiled part where you can relax peacefully. Myrtos beach is one of the most photographed and most visited beaches in Greece. The sunsets here are magnificent, and the beach can be accessed by any kind of transport. As you go down to the beach from the main road, you will enjoy some great views and can take wonderful pictures.
Myrtos Bay climate is always nice and hot. Summer months have temperatures between 30 and 35 C, and many people come to this beach to swim and sunbath as early as April. September and October are also pleasant and less crowded months when you can enjoy warm weather and swim in the Ionian Sea.
Days can be extremely hot in the summer, and if you want to avoid that you can visit this beach late in the afternoon when you can witness a glorious sunset. At the end of the beach there is a nice small cave which you can explore. The beach also has portable toilets, showers and changing rooms and you will also find a small mobile cantina in the summer months. Local laws forbid permanent solid structures on the beaches, so that is why you will find only one mobile beach kiosk for snacks and refreshments.
