Katelios Holidays

Katelios is a small, picturesque seaside village located on the southeastern part of the Kefalonia Island. It is around thirty kilometers away from the capital Argostoli, and is situated between popular resorts of Skala and Lourda. Katelios has developed a lot during the past few years, but still remains a quiet resort, mostly attracting families. Around the village there is a nice green forest, lush vegetation and many olive groves. It is a really relaxing place where you can recharge and rejuvenate. Despite its growth, Katelios still kept its charm as a traditional Greek village with fishing and agriculture being the main occupations of the locals.

Katelios Weather

The weather is almost always nice starting from May up until early October, with average temperatures in the upper 20s C. August is the hottest month when the average temperatures are in the lower 30s C.

When it comes to beaches, Katelios has a few good ones. The main beach is called Agia Barbara. It is a nice beach made of shingle and sand in front of rose bushes and pine trees. This beach has a Blue Flag award for quality. On this beach you can rent parasols and sunbeds, and there are a few cafés nearby where you can get refreshments. East of Agia Barbara is the beautiful sandy beach of Kaminia, also known as a Turtle Beach. Katelios beach is another smaller beach, located in front of tavernas and restaurants. This beach is a good option if you want to go on dinner or have some drinks right after you are done sunbathing. Lihidi is ideal for divers. It is not exactly a beach, but it is nice if you want to go snorkeling. It is located on the western side of the village.

Katelios Harbor and shopping

Katelios has a nice little harbor, a few shops and several quality fish tavernas. There are no loud music bars here, but those that like more action can visit the lively village of Skala located just about ten minutes bus drive away. Katelios is ideal for the nature lovers and those that like taking long walks and admiring good views. There are several good footpaths for exploring the area around the village. There are many rare plants and bird species that you can admire. The village is also popular for the turtles that often can be spotted on the beaches in the area. There is an information center and a small museum in the village where you can get informed about the rare caretta caretta turtles that cruise the Kefalonian sea waters. An interesting place to visit near Katelios is the very small amphitheatrically-built village called Markopoulos, located on a hill nearby. From there you can enjoy great views on the Ionian Sea. The beautiful church of Virgin Mary is also well worth the visit. From Katelios you can also go on a daily excursion to the capital of Argostoli. The buses run twice per day, and Katelios has a good connection with most places on the island.
