Armacao de Pera Holidays

Armacao de Pera is a former fishing village, now a popular holiday resort, located in the central part of Algarve region. The town is situated between two also popular destinations of Albufeira and Carvoeiro, and is a popular place for spending a holiday for the Portuguese people.

Armacao de Pera once was a small settlement with many huts where the fishermen from the village of Pera were keeping their fishing boats. The word “Armacao” is associated with the netting method used for catching the tuna fish several centuries ago. Pera village has kept its rustic outlook, and today you will still find lots of fishermen that line up their boats on the beach. Waters in Armacao de Pera are crystal clear and very calm, which makes the place ideal for diving, snorkeling and family fun. Armacao de Pera has a typical warm weather like most of the places in this region with dry, hot summers and mild winters.

Armacao de Pera Beach

Armacao de Pera has one long beach stretching for a couple of kilometers. The main beach is easily accessible and there are many toilets and showers available. There are lifeguards on the beach during the summer season, and there are a few restaurants and bars behind the beach. At both ends of the beach there are some caves and interesting rock formations.

Apart from beaches, Armacao de Pera has other things to offer too. You can get involved in some water sports, explore the coves or go on boating trips. Close to the town there is a water park with lots of slides and pools, which is ideal for family fun. There are also a few golf courses nearby for the golf lovers. Due to town`s good location in the center of Algarve region, there are plenty of attractions in the close proximity to Armacao de Pera. Visiting the old town of Pera, Albufeira, Porches or Silves is a must if you are spending a holiday here. Nearby resort of Guia has one beautiful Zoomarine park offering plenty of fun for the families. Another great thing you can enjoy in Armacao de Pera is seeing the international festival for sand building that takes place in the summer months.

Armacao de Pera Old Town

The old town of Armacao de Pera is located on the eastern side of the main beach and it has a traditional look. Here you will find an ancient fortress dating from the 17th century, built for the purpose to defend the place from the pirates that were cruising in these waters. Inside the fortress you will find the church of Santo António dating from that period.

Although fairly small resort, in Armacao de Pera there are plenty of accommodation options available. You can find everything ranging from five star hotels to smaller apartments and sites for camping. Town`s promenade is filled with nice bars, cafés and restaurants. Evenings in Armacao de Pera also offer plenty of entertainment opportunities. Live music, summer festivals and street dancers are filling the streets in the summer months. Lots of the restaurants near the beach offer fresh fish caught by the fishermen during the day.
