Monte Gordo Holidays

Monte Gordo is a relatively big holiday town, located in the corner of the Algarve`s eastern side. It has a great location near River Guadiana, which is the river that divides Spain and Portugal. This area is mostly flat, unlike the central and western part of Algarve region. This is much greener area of the coast where you will find lots of palm trees and pine forests.

Monte Gordo Town

Monte Gordo is a spacious town and its streets are pretty wide. Even with so many hotels and apartments town still does not look overcrowded. This holiday town attracts everyone, whether it is young families, couples, groups or senior citizens. It offers great value for money and has one very long, excellent beach. Average summer temperature in Monte Gordo is in the upper 20s C. December is the month with most rainfall and chilly temperatures, while the average sea temperature in summer months is pleasant 22 C.

Monte Gordo Nightlife

Monte Gordo`s nightlife mainly focuses around open bars and live music cafés that are usually open late at night. There are plenty of places where you can enjoy nice meals and drinks, and most of the restaurants have large terraces. Monte Gordo is separated by a main road that goes through the town. On the one side are the walking promenade and the beach, and on the other side is the other part of town with buildings, houses and apartments. The spacious promenade runs along the sandy beach and is filled with benches for rest and palm trees.

Monte Gordo Beach

Monte Gordo`s beach has a fine golden sand and is extremely long, stretching to almost fifteen kilometers. Unlike the central and western part of Algarve where you will find cliffs, Monte Gordo`s beach is very flat, leveled with the town so it can be accessed very easily. Due to its length and width, the beach offers lots of space for everyone even in the peak of the summer season. The beach is children-friendly and the sea temperature here is several degrees warmer than in the western Algarve. Behind the beach on the promenade you have plenty of choice when it comes to bars, cafés and restaurants for all budgets and tastes. Pedestrian areas are cobbled and flat, so they are perfect for all people.

Besides sunbathing and swimming, you can do lots of other things in and around Monte Gordo. You can take part in numerous water sport activities or visit some of the beautiful green golf courses nearby. You can also join in a boat excursion on the River Guadiana or go to a jeep safari inland around the lakes.

Vila Real de Santo António

The scenic village of Vila Real de Santo António is just a couple of kilometers away and is well worth visiting. You can rent a bike and cycle to this place, or you can take a bus. Cacela Velha is another village near Monte Gordo, where you can see a typical Portuguese architecture, a nice church and an old fort. Castro Marim is a nearby town of Monte Gordo, where you can visit castle remains, as well as take a walk in the natural park where you will see hundreds of different animal and plant species.
