Vilamoura is about twenty minutes drive from the capital city of Faro. It is a nicely built complex situated on a couple of thousand acres of land. It is a glamorous location where you will find half a dozen championship golf courses, private clubs, exclusive shops and a wonderful marina. For those seeking nice beaches, Vilamoura has two beaches – Praia de Falesia and Praia da Marina. Praia da Marina has a few bars with music and sometimes there are day parties with DJs here. Vilamoura is also a home of one large casino, which offers plenty of entertainment and live music shows in the evenings. In Vilamoura you will also find a shooting range, tennis and riding schools, a cinema and a bowling club.
Vilamoura is sheltered from strong winds and it has a pleasant weather all year long. Even the winter months are mild and relatively warm. This resort attracts mostly jet-setters, celebrities, golf players and richer people. There is always something going on here, so it is always fun place to be. For the families there is a family golf park where you can relax and play mini-golf. Visiting the Aquashow in the nearby town of Quarteira is also fun for the families, and there you will find the largest wave pool in Portugal. For those that love go-karting there is a nice karting circuit in the place Almancil, outside Vilamoura towards Loulé. For those that want to learn more about the history of the region, Cerro da Vila Roman ruins are located near the marina where there is also a museum.
Marina in Vilamoura is a perfect place for leisure walks and relaxation. There are numerous restaurants and cool bars here. The marina is very large and has place for over thousand yachts and boats. Right near the marina you will find one charming café, owned by the Portuguese football legend Luis Figo. If you want to go partying, there is huge discotheque called Kadoc, located between Vilamoura and Albufeira. Some of the most famous world DJs often have music sets in this place.
If you want to explore the wider region, you can visit Loulé. There is a big open market held on Saturdays, and there are often weekend carnivals. It also has a castle dating back several centuries ago, and there are numerous festivals going on during the summer months. Near Loulé is the small village of Alte, located bellow hills. It is a typical Portuguese village, with narrow streets and an old church in the middle of the town. There are also many other excursions that you can take in Vilamoura and travel to the capital of Faro or to the national park of Ria Formosa. None of the places in Algarve are that far, so you can quickly go wherever you like. Even if you just want to stay in Vilamoura there is one nice tourist train that circles the resort for a very cheap price. All in all, Vilamoura offers everything you might expect from a great holiday.
